About the work
It is professionally recognised that nearly all child sexual abuse cases involve grooming.
Grooming can be broken down into 6 recognised stages; targeting; gaining trust; fulfilling a need; isolating; desensitising and sexualising; maintaining control.

Why Did You Go Back? starts with a series of six double paintings that are accompanied by written narratives and soundscapes.
Each stage becomes a pair:
The first painting at each stage is the outsiders' view looking on.
The second painting focuses on the internal, victim's experience at that point in time.
The narratives and soundscapes add context, mood and alter the viewers' perspective yet again.
My intent is to collaborate with professionals within the fields of sexual abuse and education and translate the finished pieces into training and information resources.
